Saskatchewan certified HVAC apprentices at a rate 1.5 times higher than the 10-year average, bolstering the province’s skilled trades workforce. These new Red Seal-certified professionals bring nationally recognized skills that enhance energy efficiency efforts across Canada.
Saskatchewan has adopted Tier 2 of the 2020 national model codes for residential buildings and committed to advancing to the next tier in 2026, setting an example for other cold-climate regions aiming to improve resilience and reduce energy bills.
Although Saskatchewan recently expanded its energy efficiency programs, such as SaskEnergy’s incentives for beyond-code homes, these remain small-scale compared to other provinces. Creating a governance framework to prioritize energy efficiency would enable utilities to further expand efficiency measures that improve affordability and resilience for Saskatchewan residents.
