Ontario launches Peak Performance, a $20/kW commercial demand response program targeting summer HVAC load
Date
Province / territory

Ontario has introduced the Peak Performance program, a summer demand response offering aimed at commercial, multi-residential and public sector properties. Participants are paid to curtail electricity use — principally HVAC — during peak hours from June through September. First-time participants can receive up to $20 per kilowatt toward monitoring and control equipment, plus $54.84 per kilowatt of demonstrated consumption reduction during high-demand periods. Facilities must be able to curtail at least 500 kW, individually or across an aggregated portfolio. The program is sized at up to 100 MW of peak reduction in 2026, scaling to 230 MW by 2027.
